3 easy ways to detox your skin this January
Celebrations are over, the number of years in the calendar has changed, and unfortunately, your skin may have changed too.During the holiday period, it’s a time with no guilt attached. Many will drink a bit more, eat sweets and junk food and stay at home for family gatherings or simply cosy movie binging days.
After a few days, some of these guilty pleasures may start to show on your skin too. One day, sometime between Christmas and New Year, you wake up and see a new zit on your face. A new dry patch. Something is off balance.
Usually, sudden changes in your skin’s condition are due to changes inside your body. In this case, your liver worked harder than usual, and so did your kidneys. Your lymph still carries toxins and your skin needs fresh nutrients to act as antioxidants and repair the body.
Below, I will give you 3 very easy steps to follow for immediate results and improvements.
Step 1: Increase fiber in your diet
First, start by cleaning your house and getting rid of leftover junk food. Instead, buy healthy, fiber-rich foods. They will work like a brush to clean your intestine, like a soil for good bacteria and as an active ingredient to help to absorb vitamins and minerals.
Some ideas for your fiber-rich foods:
- Oats
- Chia seeds
- Popcorn (remember you can eat it plain too)
- Almonds
- Legumes like peas, beans and lentils
- Red beets
- Broccoli
- Pears
- Strawberries (even frozen ones!)
- Bananas
- Raspberries
- Avocado
- Apples
- Quinoa
- Sweet potatoes
- Dark Chocolate (unfortunately you can’t eat it in large quantities).
Step 2: Lymph drainage to remove toxins
Lymph is a liquid that removes toxins from your body. It has honey-like consistency and moves very, very slowly. Sometimes you can end up having 4-5 months old lymph in your body!
To speed up the process, we need to help our body. Several ways to do this include lymph drainage massage, exercises and self massage.
Here are some examples:
- For 7 days, take a walk, jog or dance for 20 minutes to improve the flow of your lymph
- Do some sit ups and push ups every hour if you work near a computer
- Find a Youtube video showing how to perform self massage and perform this every morning for 7 days. You will feel the results straight away, as you will want to run to the toilet after it.
- Remember to drink more water so your body has enough liquid to remove old lymph and replace it with fresh one.
Step 3: Yoga stretches to help deliver all the goodness to your cells
Your intestine is renewed, toxins from lymph removed. Now it’s time to deliver fresh vitamins and minerals to your skin!
Any stretching exercises will help to improve blood supply to every cell in your body, including your skin. Same as mentioned before, in order to have a great flow, you need liquids in your body. Please remember to drink plenty of water or tea!
